ABOUT ISKCON
ISKCON is the abbreviated name for THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR KRSNA CONSCIOUSNESS and more popularly known as The Hare Krishna Movement which was incorporated in the United States of America in 1966 by the Founder Acharya His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Having its origin from the Vedic concept that has been more or less the way of life for hundreds of millions of Hindus worldwide, ISKCON’s Purpose is focus on – to systematically propagate spiritual knowledge to society at large and to educate all people in the techniques of spiritual life in order to check the imbalance of values in life, and to achieve real unity and peace in the world. The Hare Krishna Movement has developed its popularity and recognition over the past six decades and its members are known as the strictest followers of the Vedic teachings. The Movement has become a household name in every major country in the World and the activities of the Society’s devotees are primarily preaching the message of Bhagavat Gita As It Is, and to enlighten everyone, irrespective of caste/race, creed, and denomination on the importance of chanting the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra: HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA. HARE HARE HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE. The chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is the means and method of becoming purified and free from sins and to ultimately develop love for the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna
Our Mission
ISKCON Schenectady is an affiliated branch of The International Society of Krsna Consciousness, The Center is located at 942 Cutler Street, Schenectady is open to the public for regular Sunday programs, where its members conduct activities to spiritualize ones’ consciousness such as kirtans (songs glorifying the Supreme Lord and His devotees), reading and lecturing from Bhagavat Gita As It Is, Srimad Bhagavatam etc, and Arotika ceremony (worshipping the Lord and His pure devotees with recommended items). Lastly but not the least is a free sumptuous vegetarian feast to all attendants. Also, there are an abundance of Vedic literatures for reading and purchasing The Hare Krishna Center offers an opportunity to persons of interest to become a devotee of Lord Krishna and that such person can participate in the Society’s outgoing activities such as Harinama (public chanting and glorification of the Supreme Lord), Book and prasadam (sanctified sweets and food) distribution. Through these activities which are spiritually rewarding, one can please the Supreme Lord and thereby become peaceful and happy in the service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna.
